Always Built to Order.

Sourcing Wood

We are partnered with Goodfellow Inc who distribute a wide range of wood species, and enable us to work directly with lumber mills to manufacture custom spec plywood for our products. Our signature douglas fir wood is produced specifically for Automatic Audio by RichPly in British Columbia, ensuring each face is visually and structurally impeccable.

CNC

The sheets are transported to Amicx, where Adrian meticulously cuts out the panels using his German-built CNC machine. After the panels are cut and loaded up in the Outback to be transported to our shop, Adrian insists on celebrating with cold beers and a smoke to mark a job well done.

Assembly

Once the wood is in our shop, we sort each panel, trim them to spec, then assemble the boxes using aesthetically invisible joinery and sturdy cabinetmaking techniques. After the glue is cured, the clamps come off, and the cabinets are prepared for finishing. The cabinet edges are trimmed flush, and the surfaces are sanded silky smooth.

Finishing

After confirming your choice of finish, the cabinets are treated with oil based Osmo Wood Wax and Polyx products: organic finishes with rich pigments and hard wearing protection that are sure to last a lifetime. A long trusted finishing brand, Osmo is safe for humans, animals, and our planet, whilst keeping your speaker cabinets protected from water condensation marks and UV damage.

Electronics

Our selection of highly efficient drivers brings out the dynamic subtleties in your music with only a handful of watts. Our ethos regarding component selection is nailing the intersection between price and performance, ensuring your investment goes towards quality and not a component’s brand name. We are deeply appreciative of our continuous collaboration with our distributors: Solen Quebec provides drivers and crossover components, Sonora Italia provides our coaxial drivers.

Badges

The eye-catching badges for our speakers are crafted by local machining shop, Systana. They start by laser cutting polished 1/8” steel to size, and then proceed to engrave the model name and our logo, which was conceived by Montreal-based graphic designer Clement Henry.

Le Cléac’h Horn

The Le Cléac’h 1100 horns fitted to our flagship Barbara model involves the meticulous craftsmanship of Martin, the founder of Azurahorn. Martin hand-crafts these stunning glass fibre waveguides over a three-week process. Each horn bears Martin's signature and is shipped to our workshop from Australia.

Tortoise

Inspired by electric and acoustic guitar luthiers, each cabinet is accented with a diligently polished tortoise shell acetate material. This adds an extra touch of luxury to your heirloom speakers, harmoniously uniting them with the instruments whose tones they faithfully reproduce.

Quality Control

Each speaker undergoes extensive testing once manufacturing is complete. A variety of tests and measurements are conducted to ensure each driver, the crossover network, and cabinet tuning is performing as designed. Following final tweaks, we conduct stress and endurance tests to ensure your speakers are operating within their performance window. If you go with an active speaker, we take additional acoustic measurements to program your amplifiers so that they extract every last drop of performance from your system.

Delivery

You're welcome to collect all orders from our workshop in Montreal, Canada. If visiting isn’t possible, we're happy to meticulously pack up your build for shipping. Additionally, for customers in the greater Montreal area, we offer local delivery and setup of your new sound system!
